In order to successfully fulfil my career ambitions and to further develop my professional and personal skills, there are some areas that I would like to develop. These include technical skills as well as industry related knowledge. (see above)
Some of my short term aspirations will be achievable through short courses, for example I plan to complete a InDesign course with the University next term. I would also like to do a short course in marketing to further my knowledge on how to promote events. As I have previously mentioned, I am a kinaesthetic learner, therefore will excel through work experience and practical placements.
Involvement within the sectors I am interested in will enable me to put my skills into practice and gain essential knowledge that is required.
In the long term, to successfully fulfil my ambitions in the sectors of venue design and location management I feel it is essential for me to work alongside established managers. Location management requires the ability to find the right location, negotiate terms, fees and permissions in order use a location. Therefore working within the sector where there are meetings and pitches to a variety of clients on a regular basis, will help boost my confidence in negotiation.
"Developing competences - knowledge and skills that are transferable to a variety of situations - is part of the new managers responsibility" (Adair and Allen 2003) Therefore it is essential to learn new skills and enhance knowledge for personal development so you may benefit the industry.
