Transferable Skills

Creativity

In any industry creativity is essential for the creation of new and innovative ideas. Events, project planning, managing a team are all instances that require creativity, all of which I have had experience in and utilised my creative abilities to overcome problems and produce the best outcome.

Organisational Skills

Organisation is at the forefront of events management. Managing more than one job at a time as well as social commitments requires efficient organisational skills, which I successfully achieve with the use of diaries, reminders, to-do lists, targets and mental planning.

Motivator

Not only am I a very motivated person, I am also a motivator. This, in my eyes, is equally as important; ensuring your team work to the best of their ability and feel comfortable in the work environment.

Personal Development

In every working environment I have shown an eagerness to learn new things; I recognise my own understanding and will always ask questions if I am unsure. In order for me to progress in industry I reflect on my actions and performance.

Adaptability

With the help of my sociability I am able to adapt to all types of situations, tasks and challenges. I am always eager to work with new people to better my experiences and further my skills and knowledge within industry.

Time Management

Throughout my time at University I have had a number of jobs whilst also juggling multiple projects. I have always reached deadlines, which is essential, particularly in this industry as projects revolve around having tasks done on time and usually within a strict time limit. I am always punctual to work and meetings, usually making sure I am slightly early in order to prepare myself adequately.

Microsoft Office

I am very familiar with Microsoft word, powerpoint and excel. I am able to use each efficiently and with ease. I believe that using Microsoft office and Mac Os are essential skills for any work environment.

Mac Os

As a Macbook Air user I have become competent in using the software, primarily programs such as Pages, Keynote and Numbers. I am a fast learner when it comes to technology, thus if I am using a new program it does not take me long to understand the basics.

My Core Skills

Team work

I am happiest when working within a team, although I am also capable of independent work. I love being able to bounce ideas off other people. Team work is imperative to the workplace to identify and achieve shared goals. I strive to create an optimistic team outlook.

Customer Service

Having worked in retail and hospitality I have developed extremely competent customer service skills, allowing me to deal with difficult situations. Being in a variety of front-of house positions I have adopted a very friendly but professional attitude towards customers in any environment.

Sociability

I have always been a sociable person; University and the jobs I have had in the past years have only enhanced my confidence in speaking to new people of all ages and in any circumstance. Sociability is imperative to success in the events industry as networking is key in gaining new contacts, suppliers, perhaps even potential partners.

Communication

Communication skills underpin personal, social, learning, and working activity. They are essential in clarifying one's own thoughts, in interacting and conversing with others, in expressing thoughts and in conveying information, feeling and opinions. In the experiences I have had and the way in which I have devleoped as a person has brought me to a point that I feel confident in the level of my communication skills.

Professional Development

Fire Marshal Training

As training for City of Lights, the stewards involved underwent a two day fire marshal training course. This is another valuable skill to have, particularly in the events industry, where you may be involved in an event that requires knowledge of how to deal with a situation involving fire.

NPLQ

For three and a half years I have held a full NPLQ (national pool lifeguard qualification) and have been employed as a lifeguard for the majority of that time. The qualification has given me valuable life saving skills, which I can apply whenever they are needed.

Health and Safety Training

As part of my NPLQ I had to undergo a full health and safety course. This has taught me a lot about first aid, how to apply it and what methods are appropriate for certain situations. This is also another valuable life skill to have.

BA Creative Events Management

I have recently graduated from Falmouth University with a 1st Class Honours in Creative Events Management. The course has taught me valuable skills within the industry and made me realise my strengths and weaknesses, which I will work on.
