The Falmouth Oyster Festival is an annual event and is one of Cornwall’s biggest specialist food festivals. The event celebrates the start of the oyster dredging season and the diversity of Cornish seafood; playing host to cookery demonstrations, live music, food stalls, Cornish food produce, arts and crafts marquee, real ale and wine bars, oyster and seafood bars, Working Boat race, Grand Oyster Parade, shucking competition and a Grand Oyster Draw.

I offered myself as a volunteer for the Oyster Festival as I wanted to gain more experience, and be involved with one of Falmouth's best loved festivals. Over the four days charities such as Shelterbox and Children's Hospice South West were fundraising. It felt wonderful to be a part of an event that also works for a good cause.

My main position was based at the information point, thus I utilised my front of house skills in welcoming and helping attendees with any requirements. I was also required to sell tickets for the evenings entertainment and raffle tickets for the Grand Oyster Draw. Another role I undertook was that of waste management. I believe that as an event manager you should strive to have a complete knowledge of every aspect of a festival or event and not be afraid to get stuck in.
