Key Roles: Bartender, Bar Manager

The Masked Ball is a twice yearly festival taking place on Halloween and May Bank Holiday. The concept has grown from a group of friends themed party into an outrageous, multilevel world of escape. There is a wide range of themed venues where you may find an internationally renowned DJ or the most unusual, fascinating entertainment.

My responsibility over the 3 days was primarily bartender; a role I am incredibly comfortable in. In groups we were all designated a bar we were to work on for the weekend. I was assigned to a bar named 'Malinkey'. This particular festival was different to others I have worked, because of two factors. Firstly, I was not used to the hours we were required to work. My first shift was 6pm -12am; the second 12pm - 6pm, then 12am - 6am. It was quite tiring, but I believe I showed perseverance and upheld the highest standard of customer service throughout. Secondly, at a time when our bar manager had to attend to duties elsewhere, she appointed me as bar manager, as I had shown professionalism whilst working. This gave me the opportunity to work on my abilities as a leader.

 

Working at The Masked Ball has further enhanced my bark work knowledge and skill. Additionally I now understand what is required in managing a small bar team. Furthermore, my knowledge in operations has also increased as we all helped with the set up of the bars, delegating the correct amount of drinks and equipment to each one.
